The MAET Program Residency Experience
The Residency Experience is a cornerstone of the MAET program, combining the study of educational research and theory with hands-on, experiential learning in schools, non-profits, school districts and public agencies.
Through the Residency Experience, students are immersed in Washington, DC’s complex educational contexts. A center of education policy-making and educational innovation, Washington, DC, offers students a vivid perspective on the rewards and challenges of a career in education.
Each residency is specific to your program concentration — you will work in a setting that aligns with your learning objectives, whether that is classroom instruction or as a policy advocate. Each student will participate in a concentration-specific residency during the Fall and Spring semesters, with a group-based capstone project in Summer 2. In these concentration-specific educational settings — schools, advocacy organizations, district or charter leadership offices, public agencies — you will apply the skills learned within your courses to real world opportunities. We work with an array of residency sponsors in the Washington, DC area to ensure the quality of the experiences. For students in the Learning & Teaching concentration, we utilize instructional leaders from schools in Washington, DC as clinical faculty to guide the your residency experiences. Students in the Advocacy & Policy concentration will regularly engage with leaders in nonprofit, public agency, and advocacy arenas.
