Message from the Program Director
The M.A. in Educational Transformation at Georgetown University is an innovative, interdisciplinary program located in the heart of the oldest university in Washington, DC, and the oldest Catholic university in the nation. We are deeply rooted in our home city, where we work, learn and strive to ensure that every child—both locally and across the country—has access to the teachers, schools, opportunities and resources they need to succeed.
Our program equips professionals to impact policy, advocacy, learning and teaching both from within the classroom and from policy organizations and nonprofits. Whether you are interested in working directly with children in the classroom or crafting policies that advance equity, the M.A. in Educational Transformation blends practical, hands-on learning with a comprehensive exploration of research-driven strategies for creating equitable classrooms and educational systems.
Equity in all its forms is at the core of our mission, and we are committed to addressing the challenges that hinder student learning. This dedication to equity extends to our students as well. Throughout the program, our faculty and staff provide consistent support and resources, ensuring you have what you need to thrive both as a graduate student and a professional.
Join us in advancing the transformations that will bring greater opportunities and justice to children in schools. We look forward to supporting you as you work to transform education!

Our Commitments
Education is a complex undertaking and understanding its various elements demands an interdisciplinary approach. The M.A. in Educational Transformation program embraces four foundational commitments that inform the work that we do and how we organize our courses and program:
- We embrace an integrative, interdisciplinary approach to education that stresses systemic thinking and how what we study connects across various dimensions of the educational system.
- We take an asset-based, culturally and linguistically relevant and sustaining approach to children’s learning. This approach is part of, and a reflection of, Georgetown University’s commitment to focusing on educating the whole child.
- We explicitly take an anti-racist stance to education, which we view as central to any program that is committed to pursuing social justice.
- We emphasize graduate learning anchored in both experiential learning and research, as well as the utilization of “knowledge in action” through residency programs.
